I attended a worship seminar this past weekend hosted by Tom Kraeuter. It was FABULOUS. I thought it would be about how to sing the music and/or the musicians part, but it wasn't. It was all about the importance of how we worship the Lord.
I'll tell you again, it was FABULOUS! (Seriously, it was that good I had to tell you twice)
It wasn't for any specific denomination and he spoke about what the Bible says about worship. Some of the points I have really taken to heart are below.
1. To truly be called worship, it must honor God. This might be one of those duh moments for some, but really, how many people think about other things during worship service? How many are thinking about where they will go to lunch or other things while our hands are raised, looking like we are worshipping, but are we really?
On Sunday during worship service, I checked myself during almost every song to make sure my mind was focused on God and how much I loved Him. I did catch myself once thinking something else and I quickly refocused and was drawn back into worship. I can happen easily and quickly. Your not a bad Christian if it happens to you, we just need to refocus and honor God, just like He deserves.
2. We need to remember that as a singer/musician/whatever position you might be on the worship team, that we are not performing. What we are doing on the platform should not be an act. It is not about us, it is all about HIM. If you refer to the platform as a stage or are too concerned that your not being heard, then you might want to think about why you are on the worship team.
3. What the Bible says about worship. Psalm 14:1 Clap your hands! Psalm 66:1 Shout for Joy to God.. Psalm 46:10 Be still and know that I am God. We need to enjoy worship. There is no reason we can shout, clap our hands, and/or dance (Psalm 149:3 Let them praise his name with dancing...). We are not at a funeral people! We are rejoicing in the presence of our Heavenly Father!!!!
As a parent, I love to see my kiddo dance or to hear her shout to my how much she loves me. How much more do you think God would love to see you enjoying His presence with you? He wants to hear your voice telling Him how much you love Him. He wants to see you be happy, He wants to hear you tell Him how much you love Him!!
The last thing I want to share with you is something the speaker shared with us from Jerry Bridges. I love it and I am trying to memorize it so I can share it with others where ever I go.
Your worst days are never so bad that you are beyond the reach of God's grace. And your best days are never so good that you are beyond the need of God's grace.
