There's Power!

This evening I began a new program with our kids at church. It's called Power Lab and it is a Vacation Bible School (VBS) curriculum. We are not having a VBS this summer, so I decided to use the curriculum as a Wednesday night class. I think it kicked off well!

Tonight we talked about the 10 lepers that Jesus healed in the book of Luke. The kids all got "infected" with little dot stickers and had to be quarantined, which of course, they loved. We also made little beaker key chains for a craft. It was a fun evening for all.

Thinking about being thankful, I am so thankful that I have the opportunity to minister to the kids in our church. I take this ministry very seriously. In James 3:1 it says Not many of you should become teachers, my fellow believers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly. Besides teaching the kids, I am teaching myself because I have to make sure what I am saying is truly bible based and blessed by God. If I go all willy nilly and teach what I think, our ministry will not be blessed and God would have some choice words for me when I stand before Him in judgement.

The kids can be overwhelming at times and sometimes I feel so worn out, but when I know that I most likely am the only person they will ever hear talk about Jesus, it is completely worth it. My pastor used to be the Childrens director and sometimes he talks about how he hears from the kids he used to teach and how excited he gets when he sees one of them come back into the church. I look forward to that experience. In 5, 10, or 20 years hearing a kid talk about how silly I was in class or how they remember something we used to do, or (what I look forward to the most) seeing one of these kids getting married and starting their own families while serving God themselves.

I do this because I want to hear 5 words from the Lord when I go to Heaven.

"Good job my faithful servant."
